2017 Gala Honorees


The Community Partnership Award is given to individuals and/or organizations that, through strategic partnership, expand the scope of work, increase the capacity and strengthen the impact of Morris Heights Health Center.

Recipient:

Lindenwood Rx Center

Lindenwood Rx Center has been an instrumental partner of MHHC over the past 2 years. Lindenwood is a pharmaceutical distributor that offers a personal, customer-focused, approach to the provision of institutional pharmacy services. With a community-based approach and a network of over 300 independent locations in the Greater New York City Area, Lindenwood works hand-in-hand with the healthcare organizations to produce the best solutions for patient care and health outcomes.

The Corporate Trail Blazer Award honors those individuals and organizations in our Bronx community that help pave the way for others through innovation and industry, and recognize and accept their social responsibility to improve the lives of those they serve.

Recipient:

Manuel Chinea- EVP & Chief Operating Officer, Popular Community Bank

Manuel Chinea has answered the calling of what it means to be a trailblazer. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Vice President at Popular Community Bank, and has over 23 years of service at the bank. His experience includes leading cross-functional teams, developing brand identity, driving sales culture, managing distribution channels and aligning products and services to meet and exceed customer expectations. Manuel embodies the values of customer service and constantly searches for ways to effectively respond to the ever-changing needs of the communities serviced by Popular Community Bank.

The Community Advocacy Award is given to an individual who, through their leadership and advocacy efforts, positively affect legislative and/or regulatory policy to positively impact the lives of those served by Morris Heights Health Center. Efforts are based on municipal, state and/or federal issues and involve working with multiple organizations or coalitions through grassroots collaboration.

The Honorable Carl E. Heastie, Speaker of the New York State Assembly

Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Honorable Carl E. Heastie, has truly personified advocacy. Upon election as Speaker of the Assembly in 2015, Heastie announced the Higher Education Road to Success initiative, which would increase funding for Opportunity Programs, enhance community college base aid and bolster outreach programs. More recently, he led the fight to preserve affordability of higher education by freezing tuition costs at CUNY and SUNY schools as well as restoring significant funding cuts to the CUNY system.
